Cocker Spaniel
Dog As an omnivorous animal, it is also appropriate to add some plant food to the dog's food to supplement the nutrients the dog needs. So what should you pay attention to when feeding your dog plant-based food?
Plant foods include: rice, corn, wheat, barley, corn, etc. They are important sources of carbohydrates and are rich in crude protein, B vitamins and phosphorus. These foods account for a relatively high proportion in the dog's daily diet and are a kind of prerequisite food. Because dogs have poor ability to digest raw starch, this type of food must be cooked and fed.
Legume seeds, such as soybeans, peas, broad beans, etc., are rich in plant protein and are protein supplements. However, beans are difficult to digest, so you must not feed them in appropriate amounts when feeding your dog. (Adult dogs should not exceed 100 grams per day).
Rhizome plants, including sweet potatoes, potatoes, etc., are rich in starch and sugar, have good taste and high digestion rate, and are energy foods. Among them, potatoes can partially or completely replace rice and noodles, but they also need to be cooked and fed.
Fruits and vegetables, such as pumpkins, carrots, spinach, vegetables, tomatoes, etc., are rich in vitamins, minerals, plant fibers, etc., and their nutritional value is relatively high. Feeding vegetables to dogs can reduce the secretion of their digestive glands and enzyme activity, improve the digestion situation and increase the digestion rate of the diet. Because dogs have poor taste, vegetables must be chopped and boiled briefly before feeding. In addition, when using vegetables, be sure to choose fresh and tender vegetables and fruits, not fresh or old fruits and vegetables, which will be difficult to digest due to loss of water and high crude fiber content.
When we make food for dogs, plant food should account for 2/3 of the total food, of which rice, noodles and fruits and vegetables each account for about 1/3. Those processed agricultural and sideline products, such as rice bran, soybean cake, wheat bran and oily meal, are not recommended to be fed to dogs because of their poor digestion rate.
